Shruti Mahajan (b. 1977) lives and works in Hyderabad, Telangana. She completed her graduation from Maharaja Sayaji Rao University, Baroda and her post-graduation from NID Ahmedabad. Her work responds to complexities of identity, the ambiguous nature of belonging, memory and nostalgia and how they inhabit space. Taking various forms, it is a collage of presence and absence, of what is lost and gained, and has filmed the mappable along with indiscernible acts of faith, defiance, and hope. Her interrogation of these universal ideas emerge from the personal. She works between mediums of paper, stationery, cloth, found objects and layered narratives.
Some of Shruti’s selected exhibitions are- ‘In Defence of Intuition,’ curated by Srinivas Aditya Mopidevi, Dhi Contemporary, Hyderabad, India (2023); ‘Blanc papier,’ Mumbai Gallery Weekend, India (2021); Art Mumbai with Shrine Empire, Mumbai, India (2023); Lines(By)Lines – An Exploration of Linearity in South Asian Art from the 20th century to the present – curated by Manmeet K Walia, Dhoomimal Gallery, New Delhi, India (2022); Crafting the crossroad Group show, Curated by Somdutta Mallik, Dhi Artspace, Hyderabad, India (2022); Continuities of Construction Collaborative project with conservation architect Ravindra Gundu Rao, curated by Myna Mukherjee and Davide Quadrio, Accademia Albertina di Bella Arti, Turin, Italy (2021); Allegories of Threads Group show, curated by Somedutta Mallik, Dhi Art Space, Hyderabad, India (2021); Kushala Vora, Sangita Maity, Shruti Mahajan – Three person show, Shrine Empire, New Delhi, India (2019).
